What Nobody Tells You
Cayman Islands launched the Global Citizen Concierge Program in September 2020, targeting high-net-worth individuals and professionals seeking tax optimization.
Zero taxes is the main appeal. Cayman has no income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, or payroll tax. For high earners, this can offset the extreme cost of living.
Cost of living is brutal. Cayman consistently ranks among the world's most expensive places. A gallon of milk costs $12-15, basic lunch $20-30, rent $2,200-3,500 for 1BR. Budget $3,500-6,000/month minimum.
The financial sector dominates. Cayman is a major offshore financial center with 600+ banks. The expat community is heavily weighted toward finance, legal, and professional services.
Diving is world-class. Stingray City, dramatic walls, pristine reefs, and the Kittiwake wreck make Cayman one of the world's premier diving destinations.
Cayman's average monthly salary is around $4,500 - one of the Caribbean's highest. Even locals face extreme costs, but incomes are elevated to match.
The 2-year non-renewable limit is strict. Unlike most digital nomad visas, this cannot be renewed. After 2 years, you must leave or pursue other residency options.
Hurricane Ivan (2004) devastated the island. Cayman has since rebuilt with much stronger building codes. Hurricane preparedness is excellent, but risk remains September-November.

Cayman Islands is one of the world's most expensive places. The zero income tax attracts high earners who can afford premium costs. Everything is imported, driving up prices significantly.
